Pros Turnitin
Many features make Turnitin a big choice for higher education users.
1. Languages multiple.
Turnitin is unique in offering multilingual support in comparison with other programs. It supports more than a dozen different languages and is ideal for both bilingual and international students.
It is also helpful when you are a professor of languages and asks your students to submit their content in a different language.
Most similar programs offer little or only English support and put it at an enormous disadvantage in other languages.
2. Other devices are used
Students using Turnitin will be asked to upload their documents to the program. The excellent thing is that students can upload their paper using their desktop, Docx, Google Drive or Dropbox.
Teachers can also do the same thing, and the function is very useful, rather than having to go the way of copying and pasting into the program.
In addition to using third-party file uploading, you can use the program from your iPad. Turnitin is iPad compatible, so you don’t even need to turn on your computer to submit your work, and you can only use its app.
3. Database size
While this might not be a student’s favourite characteristic, the teachers are a gift. When checking plagiarised work, most programs are shortened and many examples fail.
Turnitin has a constantly expanding database that currently checks for plagiarism on more than 70 billion websites. If anyone uses copy work of another student, the work already submitted against other users will also be checked against them. This is by far the largest detection database in the world.
4. Plagiarism detection software
After a student has submitted his work, Turnitin creates several reports and creates a digital receipt. One report is the Originality Report. This report produces a percentage of the work. The higher the score, the higher the probability of copying original work.
However, other parameters, including quotations or quotes, that you may have activated or disabled may affect software detection. It is important to note that academic misconduct was not necessarily identified because of similarities.
Instructors should check the Document Viewer with colour-coding passages. It will emphasize where discrepancies may exist. If you click the Full Source View option, you can see extracts and even the entire source. From there, you can determine the specific text excluded if students are permitted to use this site to paraphrase or decide for themselves whether to steal intellectual property.
Since the Turnitin database is so large, sometimes unavailable source texts can be produced, such as journal arts, rights-reserved work or previously submitted work. This can happen for various purposes, including private or academic repositories. For private repositories, you may request to view documents. It usually takes about a day’s work or so.
5. Calculating tools
GradeMark is a method for teachers to correct, comment, and even comment on the job.
“This feature offers no dragging of comments by commonly used categories and also allows you, for example, to create your own tags.” Freewriting for margins is another option and can be done on an iPad. Different file types can be used to upload comments, online classification, peer reviews and reports.
6. Grammatical report
As shown in originality reports, other options can be enabled and disabled. One is the grammar control. The ETS e-rater generates grammar and orthography error reports.
While using the program the student can see what needs to be fixed but does not activate or correct grammar. The student receives feedback on grammar errors and book writing. Most such programs do a grammar check without explaining the reasons or just automatic correction. Turnitin allows students to learn and improve.
7. Customer care
When it comes to customer service, they do an impeccable job of satisfying their customers ‘ needs. Over the years , the volume of questions received from their customer service desk has increased. To reach them, an average response takes less than an hour.
They also quickly prevent plagiarism. If you ask to view private databases, you will receive them in a working day or two.
Turnitin contradictions
Turnitin is good software but without some flaws.
1. Limitations
For some instructors, this may not be a big deal, but for those who make corrections to large pieces of work or research.
There’s an ending limit of 5000 characters for comments. Although space can be used on the edge or elsewhere, it can be detrimental to those whose students require a lot of guidance or corrections.
The voice feature is also limited to 3 minutes. While this won’t be a problem for most, it can be for those who need more information on their job.
Some students react better to feedback than writing. Restrictions are available for certain applications only. PDF file corrections, for example, can not include audio comments.
Students are also limited to 400 pages for plain text.
2. PRIX PRICE
While most institutions using Turnitin give it to their faculty and students, those who don’t have a subscription will pay a lot. Costs can vary, for example, from student registration to features included.
The last known online pricing point was $3 per student. Costs may seem a lot to a university, but they include faculty tuition. A tutor or anyone not separated from a large organization can do too much.

How Turnitin work?
- Similar to other duplicate checker tools. This tool will analyze the elements of the article and comb through its database to highlight duplicates and give an overall assessment of the originality of the article.
- It matches text in an assignment by comparing student submissions with internet archives, internet data, archives of previously submitted articles, and journals. and periodicals. This tool then generates an ‘Originality Report’ that is viewable by both faculty and students, locating the text in the student’s submission that matches another source.
- It will search for related articles based on the keywords of the articles submitted by students. For example, if the keyword “Turnitin mechanism of action” is used multiple times in your article, it will identify this as the main keyword and based on that it will scan the database for duplicates. .
- However, this tool does not confirm whether the article is plagiarized or not. It only reports the originality of the article showing how similar the submitted article is to the content source in its database.
